Global Volunteer Week 2018 : TPS Cleans The Beaches

 

Surabaya In line with the commitment of Pelindo III and DP World in terms of reducing plastic waste, PT. Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) through the Global Volunteer Week program cleaning on the Dubibir beach in Situbondo on Friday (7/12).

As many as 40 TPS volunteers clean the beach, and the fact there are a lot of plastic waste scattered around the beach, ranging from food wrappers to straws garbage that pollute the beach.

As happened recently, whales in Wakatobi become the victims of plastic waste, where a lot of plastic waste was found in his body. For this reason, through this activity, TPS wanted to participate in reducing the potential for re-occurrence of the incident, as well as inviting everyone to start a plastic diet.

The Global Volunteer Week itself is an activity initiated by DP World, and TPS organizes it once a year.

Not only cleaning the beach, TPS also provides assistance in the form of rectangular tents, beach umbrellas, directions to the beach, reading books for elementary schools, rubbish bin and other cleaning tools.

Through this activity, TPS hopes to be able to spread the spirit to always maintain the cleanliness of the beach to all the communities around the Dubibir coast. "What we are doing today, hopefully it can continue by all the people around here," said Nur Syamsiah, PT TPS Finance Director on the sidelines of his speech.

Dubibir Beach itself is a new maritime tourist destination which was inaugurated in November 2018 which is located in Ketah Village, Suboh District, Situbondo Regency, East Java.

At the beginning, Dubibir Beach was the shoreline for the harbor for local fishermen. However, this beach has extraordinary beauty, which the sands wide stretches and separated by a small river so it meets two shores. Visitors can go around 2 km around the mangrove forest while enjoying spot spots and taking pictures.
