COMPANY IN BRIEF

In April 1999 PT (Persero) Pelabuhan Indonesia III corporatised its container terminal operations (UTPK) forming PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya. P&O Ports, on 29th April 1999, purchased a 49% shareholding in the Company. In 2006 P&O Ports was purchased by DP World.

Since that time the TPS has embarked on a process of steady improvement in both productivity and efficiency. This has been assisted by an investment of over US$60 million in new equipment and facilities including:

  • 4 IMPSA Panamax Size Gantry Cranes
  • 12 Konecranes Rubber Tyred Gantries
  • 3 Container Handling Machines from Fantuzzi and Kalmar
  • A new Container Terminal Computer System from RBS, Sydney
  • 12 Hectares of Container yard
  • 35 New Volvo Prime movers and Double Trailers

The current terminal handling capacity is just under 2 million teus per annum.

TPS now holds ISO 9002, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification, which assist the Company to provide the best possible levels of service to its clients whilst ensuring a safe and environmentally friendly workplace. The Terminal was the first in Indonesia to be is fully ISPS Code compliant.

Development Milestones

1992 The terminal opened for business with 500 metres of quayline and a capacity of 800,000 teus per annum
1997 Development of a further 500 metres of quayline commenced
1999 An additional 500 metres of International Quayline and 450 metres of Domestic Wharf commissioned. Terminal corporatised and P&O Ports purchased 49%.
2002 The end of the US$50 million development program with new cranes, Rubber tyred Gantries and tractor/Trailer units fully commissioned.
2003 Additional Container Yard and Import truck Parking areas provided

The Company's Board of Commissioners and Board of Directors consist of representatives from both Shareholders. They meet regularly to formulate the policies which will ensure that TPS remains the "Gateway to Eastern Java and Eastern Indonesia" whilst providing to its clients and stakeholders the best possible levels of service.
